Day Trip to Oregon Coast from Bend
The perfect day trip to the Oregon Coast from Bend is the funky town of Newport Oregon.
It has some of the closest beaches from Bend. Only three-ish hours away, this cute little coastal town has an array of book themed shops, the historic Yaquina lighthouse, and fantastic beaches for miles.
A wooden stairway straight out of an M.C. Esher painting, leading to the misty beach with nobody in sight.
Newport, Oregon has a bohemian vibe that blends nicely with a classic coastal experience.
The Historic Nye Beach District
Nye Beach has incredibly soft sand, we spent a few hours there. We walked to the historic Nye beach district. It had everything we love about a downtown; artsy shops, book stores and plenty of cool cafes. Around each corner is ocean views, the downtown feels beachfront. Fortunately, the usual summer crowd was nowhere to be seen.
For lunch, we decided to go to cafe mundo and it was amazing! They had plenty of vegan options and everyone was very friendly. Mitchell got the tempeh tacos which closely resembled fish tacos. Someone tell me whats in their savory sauce?!
We sat upstairs for a bit, which is the coolest space. The roof was translucent, like a greenhouse, letting in lots of sunlight. Behind the bar was an old school dumbwaiter and a tube that the servers and bartenders used to communicate with the kitchen. It was funky in all the right ways, from decor to back-of-the-house systems.
The best part was a band of drummers who were playing outside asked Meadow if she wanted to join. She quickly grabbed a shaker and hopped on stage. A very proud moment! Everyone gave Meadow a special applause.
Onwards to the historic Yaquina light house. It was beautiful and had fantastic views, we even saw a couple whales in the distance!
It was the perfect spontaneous trip to the Oregon Coast from Bend that we all needed.
